DESIGN CHALLENGES

Stable Results Across the Whole Platform

Loads are rarely placed exactly in the center. Platform stiffness, sensor mounting, overload stops and cable protection determine whether the scale remains accurate and serviceable.

Off-center LoadingThe indicated weight should remain consistent at different positions on the platform.
Platform SizeSensor capacity and approved platform dimensions must suit the mechanical design.
Impact & OverloadDropped goods and trolleys can create forces above the normal static load.
Washdown & CorrosionMaterial, sealing and cable entry should match the cleaning and operating environment.

Typical Platform Scale System

  • Single-point or shear beam load cells
  • Rigid platform and base structure
  • Mounting feet, modules or overload stops
  • Junction box for multi-cell designs
  • Indicator, transmitter or controller
  • Corner check and span calibration
COMMON CONFIGURATIONS

Sensor Arrangements by Scale Design

The load-cell arrangement depends mainly on platform dimensions, capacity, installation height and expected load position.

01

Single-point Platforms

One centrally mounted load cell with off-center load compensation for bench, retail, counting, packing and compact industrial scales.

02

Four-cell Floor Scales

Four shear beam load cells support larger floor platforms, pallet scales and industrial weighing equipment with corner adjustment.

03

Custom OEM Platforms

Application-specific structures for checkweighing, filling, logistics, automation and machines with restricted installation space.

Four Details That Protect Platform Accuracy

Rigid Structure

Limit platform deflection so the load reaches the sensor in a repeatable manner.

Free Movement

Avoid mechanical rubbing, binding, debris and cable forces that bypass the load cell.

Overload Stops

Set mechanical protection carefully so normal weighing motion remains unobstructed.

Corner Testing

Check multiple platform positions before final span calibration and commissioning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Floor and Platform Scale FAQ

Should I use one load cell or four load cells?

A single-point load cell is common for compact platforms within its approved size. Larger floor scales generally use four shear beam load cells for structural support and corner adjustment.

What is off-center load compensation?

It is the load cell’s ability to maintain a consistent output when the same weight is placed at different locations on the platform.

How do I select capacity for a platform scale?

Include maximum net load, platform dead weight, expected impact and a suitable overload allowance. For multi-cell systems, also consider uneven load distribution.

Why are the four corners showing different weights?

Possible causes include platform distortion, unequal support, mechanical binding, load-cell mismatch, junction-box adjustment or installation alignment.

Which load-cell material is suitable for washdown?

Stainless-steel designs with appropriate sealing are commonly considered, but the required protection depends on cleaning pressure, chemicals and exposure duration.

What information should I send for a quotation?

Please provide capacity, resolution, platform dimensions, scale type, loading method, environment, quantity, output and any dimensional restrictions.
